As Watch Hill
is well known to many, Weekapaug is more private and secluded even
though there have been summer cottages there since 1877. It was
known as Noyes Beach, named after Reverend James Noyes who purchased
300 acres of land in 1701. It would become known as Weekapaug in
1899. Where Weekapaug doesn't have the shops of Watch Hill, it has
many oceanfront and pondfront homes. Weekapaug grew with the inclusions
of the Weekapaug Inn in 1899 and the Weekapaug Chapel in 1917. Summer
recreation has always been a large part of Weekapaug life. Fire
district residents have access to two private beaches and are eligible
to join the very active Weekapaug Yacht Club, Tennis Club and Croquet
Clubs.
